Section: General News - Says CAT's service is still vital for rural folk, the Bangkok Post reports.

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is opposing CAT Telecom's plan to terminate its telegram service saying it is still essential for people living in remote areas of the country. NTC commissioner Sethaporn Cusripituck said CAT Telecom sought the commission's reaction to its plan to end the service. The former state enterprise explained that people had already turned to other means of communications that are faster such as faxes, the internet and mobile phones.
