FLORADAY: I can already hear the cries about the sticker on this Jeep. All I can say is, chill out, folks. Find me another stock 4x4 with selectable lockers front and rear, a 4:1 low range, electric antiroll bar disconnects and big mud tires for less than $31,000. Better yet, find me a similarly equipped OEM vehicle at any price.
The first new-model Wrangler (JK) I drove was a four-door, so I knew to expect the same sluggishness with this vehicle. The culprit is the power-zapping automatic and less-than-adequate 3.8-liter V6 (I prefer the legendary 4.0-liter inline-six and a six-speed manual); of course, the 4129-pound curb weight doesn't help. Throw out the top, doors and back seat, and you'll be a few pounds lighter. Better yet, offer a diesel engine in the United States.
