Mar. 4--Virginia developers are at work on an unusual new residential community at Lake Norman's headwaters in unincorporated west Iredell County, across the Catawba River from a planned development in the town of Catawba. River Oaks at Lake Norman includes two geographically separate, yet linked, gated communities: The Fairways at River Oaks, an 80-lot subdivision around an existing golf course, and The Landings at River Oaks, a waterfront community of about 175 single-family homes and possibly 251 condos. Residents in each community will have access to the amenities in both. The at-least $300 million development off Interstate 40 and U.S. 70 is the first such high-end project so far north on the east side of the lake.
