Human rights organisations want the Department of Defence to comply with a court order to pay a former soldier millions of shillings in benefits and salary arrears.

The High Court ordered the Army Commander, the Attorney-General and the Chief of General Staff in February 2006 to pay Mr William Kiptoo Maiyo his salary for the period between April 1999 and December 3, 1999, and from October 10, 2003 to December 5, 2004, when he was formally discharged from the army.

Mr Maiyo, who is HIV positive, was retired on medical grounds and now lives in the city's Kibera slums. He is sickly and …
