Eon UK has submitted a planning application to build an underground gas storage facility to the north of Aldbrough in east Yorkshire.

Last year, the company carried out geological investigations to confirm the area's suitability for a major scheme capable of storing up to 165 million cubic metres of gas in a complex of eight caverns.
