Puso Mabetu of Maun Secondary School (MSS) and Galaletsang Mooketsi of Gaborone Secondary School (GSS) are the winners of the national schools chess championships. Mabetu won the boys' section by beating all his eight opponents in a competition of 355 entrants in Mahalapye. Balabedi Lekgathanye and Thabo Gumpo of Ledumang and Naledi Secondary Schools respectively finished joint second after scoring 7.5 points. But the silver medal went to Lekgathanye due to his better tie-break scores.

The Maun-based Mabetu has been showing steady improvement over the last couple of months. …
