Govt seeks early launch of Japan NSC

A government panel discussing the creation of a Japanese version of the U.S. National Security Council compiled its final report Tuesday, proposing the body be created by reorganizing the Security Council of Japan, officials said Tuesday.

The government is believed to be eyeing an early start to the new entity's activities although its official launch is not until April next year, according to the officials.

The panel, nominally headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, looked at reinforcing the Prime Minister's Office's national security functions. …
