Two blue-eyed dolls, which were considered a symbol of peace 80 years ago, are taking center stage in a girls' festival, currently under way in Hita, Oita Prefecture.

To celebrate the opening of the festival, the dolls were carried on Feb. 15 by rickshaw a distance of 800 meters from JR Hita Station to Hara Jirozaemon Ke (The House of Hara Jirozaemon), one of the city's old houses that are tourist attractions. The rickshaw was flanked by 100 children clad in festive costumes.
