Rift Valley Province has received 540,000 doses of Rift Valley Fever vaccine for use in high risk districts.

Provincial director of veterinary services Geofrey Muttai said yesterday that the region had more than six million head of cattle. He said the fever's outbreak and the panic that gripped the people had caused enormous economic loss to the country.

"The livestock sub-sector was adversely affected as most livestock owners could not sell their animals while meat consumption declined drastically forcing many butcheries to close down," he said.
