KUALA LUMPUR: The Bar Council, in an emergency meeting yesterday, is believed to have agreed on a way out of the impasse caused by its disputed elections: by replacing the election scrutineers.

Senior council members refused to confirm or deny the decision, to be made public today.

"We met for an hour together with our legal advisers. We deliberated on several options," vice-chairman Ambiga Sreenivasan said without elaborating.

The council had called for a news conference after the emergency meeting but cancelled it to the disappointment of the Press.
