KUALA LUMPUR: What possible ulterior motive is there in asking for an independent judicial commission besides the obvious need for transparency? This is what supporters of the proposal are asking in the wake of the sharp rebuke from Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim over their suggestion.

Lawyer Datuk Zaid Ibrahim said he had not expected Ahmad Fairuz to react as he did.
