Starting over?
Retired seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher tested recently for Italian go-kart manufacturer Tony Kart on the La Conca track in southern Italy. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper, Schumacher might race there in May in a WSK karting series event.
Crazy talk
NASCAR team owner Ray Evernham says he'd love to put Schumacher in one of his Dodges for a go at Nextel Cup. Evernham has invited Schumacher to "un-retire'' and drive a red Charger. "These cars are looked on as more sophisticated than they used to be,'' Evernham said. "I think he'd find them technical enough to keep him happy.''
If not Schumacher, then maybe Evernham will hire Jacques Villeneuve. Talk persists that he's working a deal to get the former F1, CART and Indy 500 champion into a Dodge for the Busch Series road race in Montreal. Some sources say the deal is done, but neither side is ready to make the announcement.
Seeing red
Philip Morris, corporate owner of Marlboro cigarettes, could switch its sponsorship of the Ferrari F1 team to one of its other brands, according to tobacco industry insiders.
