The African Union (AU) has put the continent firmly on the road to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals following the launch of the International Year of African Football (IYoAF) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Launched to officially start the countdown to 2010 World Cup in South Africa and mark the 50th anniversary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the United Nations-supported event was witnessed by heads of state, including President Festus Mogae who attended the just ended eighth AU summit held in the Ethiopian capital.
