BEIJING, February 13, SinoCast -- China's homemade 3G standard will have to confront fresh challenge after WiMax is accepted as new 3G standard by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The international telecom organization mainly discussed the 3G issue at the conference held in Cameroon at the end of last month, according to foreign reports. Participants basically reached the agreement to acknowledge WiMax as a new member of the 3G family, and the issue has entered the fast passage, an informed source revealed.

Foreign media expected ITU to accept mobile WiMax as new 3G standard in their February 5 reports. …
