Each weekday in January, Satoru Aizawa read paperbacks for two hours while commuting by train. Over the weekends, the 42-year-old company employee spent an hour reciting material from textbooks for NHK's radio courses on learning English, read paperbacks for another hour and practiced pronunciation for 30 minutes. While taking a walk for one hour, he also listened to recorded versions of a children's story and some short novels that he had bought in Britain.
