Drivers confirmed
The RuSport Champ Car team re-signed driver Justin Wilson to a multiyear contract. Wilson finished second to Sebastien Bourdais in the 2006 championship, scoring 11 top-10s, with seven podium finishes, two poles and one win.
Neel Jani, 23, a native of Jens, Switzerland, will drive a Red Bull-sponsored PKV Racing Champ Car this season. Jani spent 2006 as a test driver for the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team and also competed in GP2 and A1GP events.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing announced that Buddy Rice and Sarah Fisher will race its cars in the Indy Racing League this season. If Milka Duno lands a ride with Cahill Racing (see page 40), the IRL will boast three female drivers in 2007.
Ford GT to race
The rumblings were true (Competition, Jan. 15): A Ford GT should be on the grid for the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2008. Doran sports car team boss Kevin Doran said the new GT2 contender he is working on for a consortium of wealthy individuals is indeed Ford's GT40 look-alike. He explained the plan was to give the car its debut in the American Le Mans Series' Petit Le Mans endurance race this October ahead of an assault on Sebring and Le Mans in 2008.
The car will be known as the Ford GTR and will be powered by a normally aspirated version of the street car's supercharged V8.
