Novo Nordisk had targeted a 5-10% share of the US market for long acting basal insulin analogues and after 1 year on the market Levemir has achieved a 6-7% share. The company believes therefore that it is on track to achieve its goal. Sales of Levemir totalled DKR 1.4 bn in 2006 but Novo Nordisk did not wish to specify what the European and US contributions to this figure were. The consensus forecast of analysts was DKR 1376 M. At the end of Nov 2006 Levemir's share of the European market for basal analogues was over 22%. The only competition in this sector is Sanofi-Aventis' Lantus. …
