Feb. 5--She has been working the streets of Stockton for nearly two decades, is well-skilled at recognizing potential clients and even better at spotting a cop. At 50, Brenda, a sex worker who agreed to be interviewed if her last name was withheld, has been in the business for 38 years.
She lives in a Wilson Way motel, working to pay her bills and support a crack cocaine habit. Compared to other prostitutes she knows, Brenda has her act together when it comes to her health. She knows about STDs, gets tested regularly for HIV and is adamant about using a condom for intercourse or oral sex.
"I'll do whatever I have to do to get them," she said. "That's my priority."…
