State legislator new contender for revamped Osceola district.

Feb. 2--KISSIMMEE -- Rep. John Quinones, the first Puerto Rican Republican in the Florida Legislature, said Thursday that he will step down to run for the newly drawn Hispanic-majority Osceola County Commission seat. Quinones, R-Kissimmee, said he wants to help heal divisions in the county caused by a federal judge's order doing away with countywide election of all commissioners in favor of single-member districts.
"We need to all try to work together, and this community needs someone that can . . . help the healing process," he said Thursday afternoon in a news conference in front of the Robert Guevara Community Center in Buenaventura Lakes.
