Meet the embarrassing cousin of eating disorders Laxative abuse is most common among women, but men are not immune. It knows no age barriers and it is prevalent in the business world, writes JUDY GREEN THINK eating disorder and most of us think of anorexia or bulimia. Another is the laxative purging route that is frequently used by women to keep their weight down. It is not spoken about openly as it is not exactly elegant dinner-table conversation material.

It is more common among women, but men are not immune, particularly those in the arts and theatre worlds, where physical appearance is crucial. It knows no age barriers and it is prevalent in the business world. One sufferer is a professional and successful businesswoman in her 40s. She is attractive and a high earner with a university degree. …
