The Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation sponsored a conference on October 2-5 in Phoenix, Arizona entitled "Training About Alcohol and Substance Abuse for All Primary Care Physicians." The conference was chaired by David C. Lewis, MD, and attended by 48 participants from major organizations from the addictions treatment field.

The attendees included: representatives of the four major primary care specialties family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics; leaders in the treatment of addictions; political leaders; and the heads of major organizations in the alcohol and other drugs addiction field, including the Betty Ford Center, the American …
