Jan. 30--When you're 17, and your mom works in a gynecologist's office, chances are you've heard all the horror stories about sexually transmitted diseases. Brittnee Clark, a junior at University High School in Orlando, also has seen the medical-book pictures. So when Lisa Clark-Head came home from work one day last fall and told her daughter about a new vaccine against HPV -- human papillomavirus, the cause of 90 percent of cervical cancers -- Brittnee didn't have to ponder long. Though she intends to "wait for that special person," Brittnee plans to protect herself. Not only has she received two of the vaccine's three injections so far, but the cheerleader also has persuaded five of her girlfriends to get the shots, too. "At first, my friends had never heard of HPV," Brittnee says. "But my mom has this book, so I showed them the photos. . . . They were all just grossed out." HPV is the world's most common sexually transmitted disease. By one estimate, nearly three-quarters of Americans between age 15…
