KOTA BARU: A man was shot and wounded by police after the driver of the car he was in rammed into a police patrol car while trying to evade arrest in Pulau Melaka early yesterday.

The 22-year-old, who was shot in the leg, was taken to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian. His 43-year-old friend, who has three prior convictions for drug possession and motorcycle thefts, escaped on foot.

The incident occurred at 2am after villagers at a stall in Pulau Melaka noticed the two in a Honda Civic driving around suspiciously in the neighbourhood.
