GEORGE TOWN: To mark the Thaipusam celebration, the Little Penang Street Market here organised a kolam drawing session at the market here yesterday. Five members of the Malaysia Hindu Sangam's Gelugor branch exhibited their skill in drawing a decorative design on the floor using rice powder.

"Hindu women draw the kolam in front of their home, near the threshold, every day in November.

"It is also drawn during religious and other festivals such as Deepavali, Thaipusam and Ponggal," said the branch's women section leader R. Jayaletchumi.

She also said decoration was not the only purpose of the kolam. …
