THE country's effort to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities under the Medan InfoDesa, or Rural ICT Centre (RIC), programme is being intensified under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP). The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has set aside RM50 million for the programme.
Its IT and InfoDesa division principal assistant secretary Normala Sharom told Tech&U that this year RIC sites will be set up at 30 mukims across the country. These sites include those in Malacca, where information and communications technology (ICT) uptake is being intensified.
