Jobs outlook in state 'encouraging'.

Jan. 23--The state added 1,200 jobs in December, and a total of 10,600 last year, according to data released Monday by the state Department of Labor.

"With the notable increase in jobs for December we now are up 5,000 over the last three months," state labor economist John Tirinzonie said in a written statement.

Nonfarm employment totaled 1,679,200 in December, up 1,200 from November and 10,600 from December 2005.

"Overall, the trends seem to be encouraging," said Todd Martin, economic adviser to People's Bank. "Job growth actually looks pretty good. It was a good report to end the year on."
