LIM CHEE WAH rides the waves of this year's monsoon madness.

Every year in January, Balok Beach in Kuantan, Pahang, hosts a spectacular wind-and kite-surfing championship event known as Monsoon Madness.

This year, the event sets sail from 18-20 Jan - at the height of the monsoon season.

You must be wondering: 'who in their right mind would venture out to the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia during the monsoon season?' Well, for a group of adventurous surfers, there's no better time than now; when the wind is consistent and the waves are forceful.

While others are afraid of this turbulent weather, surfers revel in it.

And as such, this international sporting event couldn't have picked a more appropriate name than 'Monsoon Madness'.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of this championship event, which has attracted surfers from 14 different countries, including Austria, Canada, …
