The cliche "Good seats still available!'' has never been more true than for the 45th Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, where you can essentially have a grandstand all to yourself. Daytona International Speedway has never generated the sort of interest you see at, say, the 12 Hours of Sebring, where fans once showed up despite the fact that the race had been cancelled well in advance. The Rolex 24 is, however, a good way to spend a late January weekend in Florida.
If your attention wanes, there are plenty of things to do, and not all of them involve getting a tattoo. Just up Interstate 95, 10 minutes north of the Speedway at the Highway 1 exit, you'll find Destination Daytona, an only-in-America shopping complex with hotels and condos built around Daytona Harley-Davidson, the world's largest such dealership. There are multiple restaurants and shops there, including the Daytona Pig Stand, an atmospheric, old-fashioned barbeque joint with tolerable beans but too much fat in the pork.
