Here's a smattering of other important news from the Detroit show:
1. Sporty car resurgence. We've already revealed the Dodge Viper, Toyota FT-HS (future Supra), Camaro convertible, Jaguar C-XF and Ford Interceptor. Watch for clues to the next-gen NSX in the Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept, see 90 percent of the next Mitsubishi Evolution in the Prototype X, and take in the Lexus IS-F, the first IS with a V8.
2. Convertible corner. BMW 3 Series Convertible gets a folding hardtop, and Mercedes-Benz speculates on life after Maybach with the Concept Ocean Drive.
3. Chinese undercurrent. Chinese automaker Changfeng Group Co. is showing five vehicles in Detroit, including the Liebao CS6 sport/utility vehicle worth a look-see. Weird or not, Changfeng's presence reminds us China is ever closer to competing in the rough-and-tumble U.S. auto industry.
