* Somalia is neither a state nor a nation. Four main clans and some five lesser ones throw up warlords whose militias dispute everything in their clan's name. Since 1991 there has been no government, and the Kalashnikov rules. The one and only thing that Somalis have in common is Islam. A movement known as the Islamic Courts duly mustered, with help and blessings from al-Qaeda. The Courts drove out the warlords and established Islamic law. There is no doubt that many Somalis were glad to have security from the warlords even if this meant no movies, no music, and no alcohol.
