Jan. 14--Welcome to Jack Bauer's nightmare.
Beat down by nearly two years of anguished, torture-laced abuse in a Chinese prison, the relentlessly intense man who saves the world for a living is one sadly haunted soul when "24" returns for a darkly compelling sixth season.
Feelings of regret and somber doubt have crept into Jack's life.

Those discouraging words are uttered by Kiefer Sutherland's super agent alter ego soon after the onscreen digital clock starts ticking on another scary day at the cliffhanger factory. Yes -- "24" blasts off with a double-barreled jolt of topical action and anxiety from 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday and Monday on Fox.
