Tri-fold hardtop for 2007 BMW 3 Series Convertible
We've been awaiting the debut of BMW's hardtop convertible version of the fourth-generation 3 Series since our spies first spotted the car more than a year ago ("Hideaway Hardtop,'' Dec. 12, 2005). At that time, it was big news that BMW would eschew the traditional fabric top and join the rush to folding hardtops with a three-piece retractable lightweight steel top for 2007.
The roof system, which opens in 22 seconds and folds into the trunk, was designed as the only drop-top for the four-seater-no fabric top option will be offered.
Engine choices carry over from the rest of the line with the 3.0-liter 230-hp, 200-lb-ft I6 in the 328i and the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter 300-hp, 300-lb-ft I6 in the 335i.
BMW says the 335i Convertible accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds with a six-speed manual gearbox, or 5.7 seconds with the six-speed automatic.
