Taking stock of sentiment
' site review
The web-based Corpora News analysis tool is designed for researchers, PR agents and investors keen to track news coverage. The site extracts text from web-based news portals and ranks them in terms of coverage -- positive, negative or neutral.
You enter your story or areas of interest, determine the time line to be covered -- one month, three months or one week -- and the site will find and score relevant articles. The search brings up a helpful summary page with a small bar graph displaying the overall sentiment of the located stories, allowing you to decide how to drill down through the compiled data.
The application only looks at sentiment within the copy. Although it will define its search on words with obvious positive or negative connotations, it is intelligent enough to appreciate the context within which they are used. Each bar within the summary chart is linked through to its own story, so it is easy to pick the most positive or negative angle.
