Mission Valley--farmland and pasture in the 19th century--has been booming since the '50s--characterized by an assortment of hotels, shopping centers, offices and condos, and all the traffic and congestion that go along with it.
Now, plans are percolating for an ambitious mixed-use project on what is an active 230-acre sand and gravel quarry near Interstate 805 and Friars Road.
If approved, the project is expected to generate $2 billion in new construction by the time it's built out in 2020, said Tom Sudberry, president of Sudberry Properties Inc.
He said the project would add $2.8 million in new revenue to the city each year.
