Jan. 9--State transportation officials will study the stretch of Statesville road where a family of five was killed in a wreck Sunday to determine whether new traffic safety measures are needed.
The Lopez-Sosa family's SUV ran off the left side of U.S. 70 east of Stamey Farm Road in rainy weather, killing all of its occupants. The vehicle crashed down a 12-foot embankment, overturned and landed in a creek.
Erick Sosa, 13, who wasn't with his family at the time lost his parents, Arturo Lopez and Irene Sosa; his sisters, Cynthia, 12, and Danira, 7; and his brother William, 11 months.
