Plans made by DaimlerChrysler UK for the worlds first carbon-neutral car will rely on a new, integrated electric drivetrain system developed by UK specialist Zytek, writes Ray Cooling The new Smart electric vehicle unveiled at the British International Motorshow in London provides all the benefits of the Smart fortwo but will have zero-vehicle emissions and better fuel economy thanks to the new Zytek drivetrain. Up to 200 electric Smarts will be built by Zytek at its technical centre in Fradley, Staffordshire, for use in UK market trials. The vehicles will be leased to corporate customers from November 2006.
