Not everything stays cloaked until the North American International Auto Show kicks off in Detroit. Press previews are Jan. 7-9, and the show is open to the public Jan. 13-21.
S-Type replacement revealed! Jaguar will debut a new volume midsize sedan at the NAIAS dubbed CXF, for Concept XF. Make no mistake: This high-style, coupe-looking four-door sedan is the new S-Type replacement that will lead the marque in the near future. A full story on the Ian Callum-penned car and its design will appear in the Jan. 8 AutoWeek.
Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe
We've seen this car before as the 100EX Convertible, but that was just a show concept. Now Rolls-Royce is rolling out the $350,000 production model, with plans to build just 100 of the drop-top luxury cruisers per year. Look for power from the same 6.8-liter, 453-hp V12 that drives the Phantom sedan.
Top-of-the-line top-down Mercedes
Mercedes-Benz calls it a "design study,'' but count on this: If the company gets a strong positive reaction to its Concept Ocean Drive, there's little doubt the German automaker will build this drop-top dream car. The design study, based on Mercedes' flagship S-Class, is a one-off creation intended to revive the tradition of large luxury convertibles.
