SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California Assemblywoman BONNIE GARCIA has introduced legislation aiming to ban artificial trans fats in foodservice establishments statewide. The bill is similar to the ban recently passed in New York City. Garcia, a Republican, said the measure was designed to be a "starting point" that would bring together interested parties to discuss how it could be implemented statewide. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recently asked public health officials there to evaluate the impact of a possible ban on trans fats in restaurants.
