They're beautiful and talented--you'd think they'd be oozing with confidence. But a number of so-called sexy celebs seem to be suffering from "I suck" syndrome. The emerging poster girl for self-deprecating behavior is Jennifer Aniston, who's been quoted as saying "I worry about being a laughingstock." Superskinny Victoria Beckham is nearly as negative, complaining that she looks "awful" naked. Even singer Shakira, known for her supposed self-acceptance, calls her fiance, Antonio de la Rua, "a saint" for putting up with her because she's insecure.
Though these kinds of self-loathing comments make female celebs seem more relatable and real, they telegraph the message 'I'm needy." Says Bob Berkowitz, PhD, author of What Men Won't Tell You but Women Need to Knenv, '"Women--famous or not-who constantly complain about themselves or their I lives are often just fishing for compliments and reassurance." Problem is, while men may play along with this tactic, it annoys them beyond belief.
And who can blame them? ...
