Dec. 20--A plan to build a giant dairy operation near the historic African American village of Allensworth got tentative approval Tuesday from Tulare County supervisors.
Opponents -- who have packed almost a dozen public hearings -- moved forward with plans that would preserve the land instead. They believe the two dairies and their 12,000 cows will generate flies and odors at nearby Colonel Allens-worth State Historic Park.
Named for the man who, in 1908, founded the state's only town that was populated and governed by African Americans, Allensworth has been restored and re-created by the state Parks and Recreation Department.…
