E-learning role for IPs
I agree with your article (June 2005) that e-learning has opened up new opportunities for information professionals, and that it should not be IT-led. But neither is e-learning all about "HR", or "top management buy-in". Surely e-learning is abouta[bar] learning!
However brilliant the planning implementation for the MLE, the commitment of the top brass, or squeaky-cleanness of the metadata, if the system doesn't help learners learn, then it's pretty much a waste of everyone's time. Having learners inspired and engaged is a critical aspect, but so is good curriculum design.
I think we need to put more emphasis on the role of information professionals as curriculum designers and educators, and not only as people who deal with just the technical, support or e-resource aspects of e-learning.
