Dec. 17--RINER -- Bleachers are few. Seats are scarce. Court size is small.
Compared with the other eight New River Valley high school gymnasiums, Auburn is short on space. Cramped quarters don't stop Eagles enthusiasts from considering the hub of their winter sports a special place.
"When they play volleyball in here everybody cusses this low ceiling," said Lee Teel, a 1966 graduate of Auburn who, with a couple fellow Eagles diehards, shared the bottom row of bleachers with the basketball team at Tuesday's home game with Blacksburg. "But it ain't that low. It ain't that bad. ... I've been coming out here over 50 years since I was a boy. ... Most people out here know me."
