Dec. 17--The good news: De Anza High School finally will get that long-promised swimming pool as part of a much-needed $170 million school rebuild, and Ohlone Elementary in Hercules will get a $27.9 million face-lift.
The bad news: The cost of the De Anza project, along with other unplanned West Contra Costa school district projects and escalating construction costs, means that seven district elementary schools -- Coronado, Fairmont, Grant, Highland, Lake, Valley View and Wilson -- will not get shiny, new buildings and new paint as promised under the district's $1 billion bond construction program. Not unless voters pass…
