The Saudi ambassador to the United States, Prince Turki al-Faysal, has resigned and left Washington after only 15 months in the post. The story first broke in the Washington Post, earlier this week. The daily quoted US officials and Arab diplomats in Washington as confirming the prince's departure after bidding farewell to his embassy staff and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The Washington Post quoted Arab diplomats as saying that Prince Turki told his staff that "he has resigned for personal reasons." The Arab print media, however, is full …
