The "battle'' for the 2006 Busch Series championship ended almost as quickly as it began. The issue was settled when Kevin Harvick moved atop the points after round two at Fontana in late February.
Once ahead, "Happy'' settled in for the next 33 races and provided one of the most dominating performances by anyone at any time in any of NASCAR's upper divisions. He led by a virtually unbeatable 348 points by Charlotte in May, and his advantage was an impressive 374 points after the early August race near Indianapolis.
He built his lead to 484 points by Michigan in August and 619 by Richmond three races later. The spread reached 790 after the Memphis race in October and was 844 after the next-to-last race, at Phoenix in November. Harvick officially won his second title at Homestead by 824 points over Carl Edwards, a distant second most of the season.
