Brazil nuts
Home-court advantage and international experience didn't mean everything in this year's Granja Viana 500 kart race in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where the two-time defending champions were knocked off.
Race organizer Felipe Giaffone, whose family owns the seven-eighths-mile track, finished second in the 10th annual event. Giaffone teamed with Rubens Barrichello, Tony Kanaan and Dan Wheldon. The all-star crew finished two laps behind a local team in the 11-hour, 644-lap race. Ferrari F1 driver Felipe Massa's team started on pole, but Massa crashed to finish 69th among the 74 entries.
Brabham to Highcroft
ALMS team Highcroft Racing announced that it signed David Brabham to drive the team's new Acura-powered Courage LMP2 in 2007. Brabham, with 12 career ALMS victories, is one of only a handful of drivers to have at least one victory in seven of the eight ALMS seasons. Highcroft expects to name Brabham's co-driver soon. Team owner Duncan Dayton will join the pair for the series' longer endurance races.
Bergmeister to Porsche
Porsche is poised to re-sign Jorg Bergmeister two years after it released him. Bergmeister confirmed he has left the Krohn Racing team, with which he won this year's Grand-Am Daytona Prototype title.
