Dec. 6--The Cherokee County Planning Commission recommended Tuesday against approval of a 12,000-unit housing development proposed for 4,000 acres north of Lake Allatoona.
The nine-member commission voted 5-4 to recommend against the development, which was proposed in August by developer Stephen Macauley.
Commission chairman Rob Cutting, who voted to deny, said he found the project "grossly deficient" in regard to engineering and schools.
"It's a generous contribution, but I find it deficient," he said of the developer's plans to donate amenities to ease the impact.
