Dec. 7--The Catawba County Board of Education this week unanimously approved redistricting that will shift students in the existing Sherrills Ford, Claremont and Balls Creek elementary attendance zones to accommodate the new Catawba Elementary, set to open in August. About six parents, most from the Grassy Creek neighborhood, spoke out against the plan at a public hearing Monday. They expressed disappointment that their children will shift from Sherrills Ford to Balls Creek and argued that they had chosen their homes so their children could attend Sherrills Ford, district spokeswoman Beverly Lampe said.
