Dec. 6--Carmel Middle School's ambitious venture into environmental education has received high praise locally. Now it has grabbed attention in Sacramento.

The Hilton Bialek Biological Sciences Habitat received the Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award on Thursday night. The award is considered by the state Environmental Protection Agency as the state's highest environmental honor.

The award recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations that demonstrate exceptional stewardship for California's environment and natural resources.
