The star: Jessica Alba
The goof: A cool coif color with a warm skin tone
The discovery: Despite how striking your hair color is, it might not flatter you.
The scoop: Jessica Alba's maroon streaks, circa Dark Angel, were too cool for her warm skin tone. Once she landed Honey, however, she turned her tresses the same tint as the movie's title and became a total babe. "For perfect highlights, use your skin's undertones as a guide," says her mane man, Roberto Ramos. So if you have a warm olive or yellow-based complexion (like Alba's), you'll look best with golden streaks. On the other hand, girls with cool skin (pink undertones) should get ashier highlights. A great kit: L'Oreal Hi-Light Styliste, $10.99.
The star: Charlize Theron
The goof: A dipped-in-Tang-looking spray tan
The discovery: Your bronzer and/or self-tanner shouldn't make your skin more than two shades darker.
